Lobby Day Speakers

David Modica

David Modica, Marblehead Resident

David Modica is a resident of Marblehead, where he recently went viral for his comments to Town Meeting about their proposed MBTA Communities compliance plan. “Are we being pricks,” he famously asked, questioning the rationale for Marblehead implementing a technically compliant but effectively meaningless zoning bylaw. This remark garnered significant attention from national media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal and CBS News. His candid assessment of the 2021 transit-oriented development law has since sparked a broader national dialogue regarding the impact of outdated zoning regulations.

Kim Driscoll

Kim Driscoll, Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts

Kim Driscoll is the 73rd Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Together, Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll are the first all-women executive team to lead Massachusetts.
Since taking office, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll has spearheaded several administration priorities and initiatives. Exemplified by her extensive and successful career in local government, Driscoll has served as a notable proponent for the economic development of Massachusetts cities and towns. This commitment also includes significant involvement with the state’s affordable housing development and improvements to the state’s public education policy. Driscoll also chairs the Governor’s Council, the Governor’s Council to Address Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, and Human Trafficking, the Seaport Economic Council, and co-chairs the STEM Advisory Council.
Prior to Beacon Hill, Driscoll served for seventeen years as the Mayor of Salem, Massachusetts and is a proud graduate of Salem State University.
Representative Andy Vargas

Representative Andy Vargas

State Representative Andy X. Vargas represents the 3rd Essex District (Haverhill) in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He serves as the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Businesses. He also serves as the Chair of the MA Black & Latino Caucus.

Some of his legislation successfully signed into law include mandating civics education, universal school meals, boosting housing production, and the expansion of access to the life-saving drug, Naloxone. He resides in Haverhill with his wife Rikelma – an educator and unfortunately a Yankees fan. They are parents to two happy boys, Rubén and Henry.

Senator Brendan Crighton

Senator Brendan Crighton

Senator Brendan Crighton represents the 3rd Essex District, including the City of Lynn and the Towns of Lynnfield, Marblehead, Nahant, Saugus, and Swampscott. Senator Crighton began his political career in 2009, serving as the Ward 5 Councilor on the Lynn City Council. In 2018, Senator Crighton was elected to the Massachusetts State Senate, where he currently serves as the Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation and the Chair of the Senate Committee on Juvenile and Emerging Adult Justice.

Real change starts with showing up!

Join fellow pro-housing advocates from across Massachusetts as we meet with legislators to rally support for the YIMBY Bill, our comprehensive housing proposal that updates outdated zoning laws, creates more abundant homes, and tackles our housing shortage head-on. Do not worry if you’ve never met with your legislators or attended a lobby day before. We have a training session and other materials to make sure you feel prepared and confident. You can find them here

We highly encourage all Lobby Day participants to attend this training or watch the recording prior to attending Lobby Day on May 27th.
